Tidepoint
Malibu, California
Set directly above the surf, Tidepoint is a revitalized modern beach house that honors its architectural legacy while embracing a new era of refined coastal living. Originally built in the 1970s and long admired by its current owners, the home was reimagined by SPF:a to preserve its spirit while strengthening and modernizing its structure. Extensive remediation work stabilized the oceanfront foundation, where waves crash beneath the house along its seawall. Inside, the design features minimal lines, natural stone, and stainless-steel detailing suited for the marine environment, alongside a backlit glass-and-steel staircase and an operable skylight that opens to a rooftop deck. Expansive glass doors blur the boundary between interior and ocean, while a custom-built stairway from the seawall to the sand provides rare, year-round beach access. Both technically demanding and architecturally pure, Tidepoint is a study in timeless design adapted for the future.
